Be it diamonds, velvet slippers, a dramatic hat or a red lip nothing should be off limits as we celebrate the end as well as the most sparkling season of the year. TREE TOPPER ANGEL
Angel imagery is part of the symbolisim of Christmas and often they are presented as beautiful, human-like creatures with perfectly wavy hair, luminous skin, swan-like wings and are dressed in a white gown embroidered with gold. Perhaps, being messagers of God, angels need to embody the riches of heaven, at least in the imagination of popular culture and, therefore, are adorned in luxurios dress. Moreover, angels symbolize devotion, hope, trust, faith and love as well as are connected to ideas of innocence, purity, intelligence and strenght. Needles to say that angels are also assossiated with stars, good luck, moral righteousness and act as protectors of humans.
What is also interesting is that desides from Christianity angels hold a place in various other Abrahamic religions such as Judaism, Islam, Hinduism and Buddhism. Their symbolisim is largly the same althought in Islam angels are belivied to have been born from light. In Hinduism they appear in a more materialized way through a human figure while apparently the idea of two angels sitting on your shoulders recording good and bad deeds comes from Buddhism. In addition, the first mention of winged angels is actually based on Zoroastrianism beliefs of gardian angels with wings.

Even though, I am not particularly religious I find religions utterly fascinating for their rich symbolism, supernatural creatures and universally beautiful values which is why I chose to talk about one religious subject during blogmas seen as Christamas is, after all, a religous celebration.
And when it comes to angels, the development of angel imagery is particulraly thought provoking. Actually, a few of weeks ago somebody mentioned to me how different angels are pictured in the old and new testaments. That got me thinking about the over all develepment of the concept of angel from disembodied beings to blond, woman-like figures in the present pop culture, not to meantion phenomenons suh as Victoria Sectret Angels... And while I am not very educated on this subject it seems only realistic that religious beings are also viewed through the lenses of our current beauty ideals. I don't know about you, but for me, this is a very insteresting topic. However, not one for further investigation in this particular post :) but maybe it gave you something to ponder on as well.
